Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Glen Carbon Homes

Moving is already one of the most stressful things a household does — the last thing you need is to spend your final hours in a home scrubbing baseboards, or your first hours in a new one wiping down someone else's dust. Whether you're leaving a Glen Carbon home or just arrived, here's exactly what a thorough move-in/move-out clean should cover.

During a home tour, a husband gazes out at the view while his wife engages with their realtor about the potential of their new home.

Why Move-In/Move-Out Cleaning Is Different From a Regular Clean

A standard recurring cleaning maintains a home that's already relatively clean. A move-in/move-out clean resets an empty home from top to bottom — deeper detail work, since there's no furniture in the way and no ongoing maintenance to rely on. It's a one-time deep service, not a lighter version of a regular clean.

Room-by-Room Checklist

Kitchen

•      Inside and outside of all cabinets and drawers

•      Inside oven, stovetop, and range hood

•      Inside refrigerator (if left behind) and dishwasher

•      Countertops, backsplash, and sink

•      Floors, including under movable appliances where accessible

Bathrooms

•      Inside and outside of cabinets and drawers

•      Tub, shower, tile, and grout

•      Toilet (inside and out, including base)

•      Mirrors and fixtures

•      Floors and baseboards

Bedrooms & Living Areas

•      Inside closets, including shelving

•      Baseboards, window sills, and door frames

•      Light fixtures and ceiling fans

•      Floors — vacuumed and/or mopped depending on surface

Whole-Home Details

•      Light switches and outlet covers

•      Interior doors and door handles

•      Vents and returns

•      Cobwebs in corners and ceiling edges

Why This Matters for Glen Carbon Renters and Buyers

Many Glen Carbon leases require the property returned to "move-in condition" to get your deposit back — and buyers moving into a new home want it genuinely clean before unpacking, not just visually tidy. A missed detail (like the inside of an oven or the base of a toilet) is a common reason deposits get partially withheld, or a bad first impression sets in on day one in a new home.

DIY vs. Hiring It Out

This checklist takes most homeowners a full day or more to do thoroughly — time that's often in short supply during a move. A professional move-in/move-out clean typically takes a trained team a few hours, done right the first time, so you can focus on the rest of the move.
